In 2019, a former Democratic lawmaker criticized Biden's stamina by referencing his father's age.
Bakari Sellers stated that his 74-year-old father lacked the energy and strength to lead a campus in a 2019 attack on Biden's age.
A former South Carolina Democrat lawmaker who backed President Biden's re-election campaign in 2020 previously cautioned about Biden's age in 2019 when supporting Vice President Kamala Harris's unsuccessful presidential bid.
Bakari Sellers, a surrogate for the Harris campaign, stated in a 2019 Politico interview that Joe Biden had been running for president for as long as he, Bakari, had been alive.
""Joe Biden is nearly 80 years old and running for president of the United States, while my dad, who was president of an HBCU, will turn 75 this year and his doctors advised him against it," Sellers said."
Voorhees College's former president, who served for 7 years, lacked the energy and strength to lead the campus anymore, according to CNN political analyst Sellers, who served in South Carolina's House of Representatives from 2006 to 2014. Despite this, Sellers emphasized that his dad was a great man, leader, and visionary.
"It is a justifiable conversation," he continued.
During the 2019 Democratic presidential primary, sellers criticized Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren for their age.
"Ronald Reagan was younger than the three front-runners when he assumed office," Sellers stated. "I believe Democrats fear criticism, which is unfounded. However, we will have a contentious primary focused on vigor and fitness to be president."
The donor, who gave $10,000 to the Biden Victory Fund and $6,600 to Biden's re-election campaign last year, has been a consistent defender of Biden's age and has recently stated that it is "patently absurd" to discuss a Parkinsons specialist visiting the White House.
On Thursday night, Sellers reacted to Biden's one-hour press conference by posting on X that Biden was "in good health" and shared a post from NBC analyst Vin Gupta, a doctor, praising Biden's press conference.
"Gupta praised Biden's strong performance tonight, stating that he continues to function at a high level for his age, despite gaffes."
"According to Sellers, Biden will not run for president and will not resign, as neither of these options is happening. Any article that discusses Biden's age without mentioning his accomplishments, such as appointing a black woman to the Supreme Court and reviving the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic, is an emotional play. It is clear that even at his age, Biden is capable of performing the duties of the President of the United States."
Less than an hour after the CNN debate between Biden and Trump, Sellers defended Biden.
"Biden is not going anywhere. It's June. Let go of your pearls and dry your bed. He lost a debate. Bad. But it's June. You're not replacing him. So leave your random combinations in your chats. You're not nominating Gretch or Gavin or Wes over Kamala. Stop it. Organize. Vote. We are winning every swing state senate race and gubernatorial race (NC). Relax."
"Joe is my choice over Trump or staying on the couch. Goodnight," he concluded.
Sellers did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
