A top adviser to a Dem Senate candidate shared a photo with a religious leader who made a comparison between Jews and termites.
In 2017, DeFoe disclosed online that she had participated in a Nation of Islam event.
A House Democrat running for the Senate in an anti-Israel state attended a convention organized by a notorious antisemit.
In 2017, Terra Defoe, the deputy political director of Democratic Michigan Rep. Elissa Slotkin, shared on Facebook her "full week" of "supporting the Nation of Islam and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan" at the Nation of Islam's "Saviours' Day Convention."
The leader of the Nation of Islam, Farrakhan, has frequently expressed his views on Jews, likening them to termites and describing them as "Satanic."
Defoe had a wonderful time at the Savior's Day Convention with her Brothers, including some Nation of Islam activists.
A photo posted by DeFoe featured Farrakhan and a grinning Mike Duggan, the Detroit mayor who was praised by President Biden at the NAACP dinner this month and has visited the White House several times.
A representative from Duggan's team stated that the mayor has never participated in a Saviours' day celebration.
"The mayor directly addressed the issue of antisemitic language with Minister Farrakhan during a private meeting, as revealed by John Roach, director of media relations for the City of Detroit to Planet Chronicle Digital. The mayor has a practice of meeting with a wide range of political voices, including those on the far right and left, including several officials in the Trump administration and many activist groups."
Duggan has been praised by Farrakhan on multiple occasions, including at this year's Saviours' Day convention in Detroit, where he thanked him and the deputy mayor for their warm welcome. In 2017, DeFoe read a proclamation from Duggan's office to the participants of the convention, welcoming the convention "home" to Detroit, as reported in the Nation of Islam's "Final Call" newsletter.
Dr. Terra DeFoe's personal website showcases her political career, including her roles as a Detroit Delegation Organizer to the Michigan House Democrats and a senior adviser to Duggan. Additionally, she has experience in ministry and hosts a cable television talk show called "On the Floor" with Dr. Terra DeFoe, which airs in Detroit.
From July 2023 to March 2024, DeFoe received nearly $60,000 from Slotkin's campaign for various payments, including salary, stipends, and reimbursements, according to FEC records reviewed by Planet Chronicle Digital. The most recent disbursements from March 2024 are reflected in the most recent public filings, so the total amount is likely to increase when July's report is released.
In 2019, two years after attending the Nation of Islam convention, DeFoe invited Troy Muhammad onto her talk show. Muhammad, who serves as a "State Representative for Minister Louis Farrakhan and Minister of Muhammad Mosque No. 1" and was featured in DeFoe's 2017 Facebook post, was introduced by DeFoe as a "valued community leader in Detroit." The nine-minute interview did not address Farrakhan's controversial antisemitic comments.
A GOP strategist stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that Elissa Slotkin is running to the far-left of the Democratic Party in order to win her primary election against Hill Harper.
Farrakhan has been highly controversial in the US due to his comparison of Jewish people to termites, praise of Hitler as a "great man," and other derogatory comments about Israel.
Farrakhan has been accused of antisemitism and homophobia since he took leadership of the Nation of Islam in the late 1970s.
The slave trade, Jim Crow, and black oppression in general have been attributed to Jews by Farrakhan.
In a 1996 speech in Chicago, Farrakhan referred to Jews as "the temple of Satan."
Earlier this year, Brooke Goldstein, a human rights attorney and the executive director of The Lawfare Project, stated on Planet Chronicle Digital that Louis Farrakhan is a public figure who has used his platform to spread abhorrent antisemitic stereotypes and recruit followers into a cult of hatred towards Jews and marginalized communities.
"Farrakhan, who supports and values Islamist regimes like Iran, which deny their citizens basic human rights and promote global terrorism, has spread vitriol accusing Jews of manipulating and exploiting Black people."
As a Jewish individual, Slotkin has publicly condemned the violence that has taken place on college campuses during anti-Israel protests and urged universities to take greater measures to safeguard their students from antisemitism.
Slotkin's office and campaign did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry.
